The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 3.5/5. 炒中国菜那段是故意抖一抖画技么快赶上舌尖了；全女性核心剧组成员很赞，青春期女性的小心思们很赞；除了青春成长，讲的是母女关系，母系家族，母系家族长，“家长”强权对于孩子各方面的高压；片子后段母亲还是说了一句i am your mother仍然给我一种道德绑架；片中为了突出母女关系，淡化父亲，仿佛父亲家庭角色缺失。剧中那种为家族争光，孩子是父母的一切的剧情张力紧张感皮克斯的观众们能共情多少。
居然是个话剧电影。悟了，只有鸭才有耐心去懂一个女人。

青春成长不只多角恋、堕胎、自杀，还有同辈的压力，家庭的束缚，象征意味明明白白，恰到好处，人物可爱，情节轻松，愉快的观影体验。

低幼没问题，为啥总是处在鸡飞狗跳大呼小叫的闹腾状态，一刻不得消停。每个人表现得都很浮夸和浮躁，做法事又是什么鬼，成人礼吗！母女之间看不出共情处，太夸张了。浪费了优质的画面之感。5
皮克斯还是那么有深度，把中国式教育下的孩子刻画的太鲜活了…成长中每个人都曾叛逆过，但大部分人都封印了真实的自我，磨平棱角随波逐流是这里绝大多数人的真实写照。人云亦云的环境中我们也有特立独行的权利，脱下面具，勇敢地做回自己吧！

这么好的片子为啥不引进到院线呢？真的可惜可惜可惜啊！虽然故事和角色设置有很多cliche的地方，但内核却是动人的，你身体里的那个小熊猫，还在吗？最后母女大战那里好泪目。如果出了周边真的想爆买啊！
亚洲小孩很能共情的可爱电影了~其实这个小熊猫让我想到那个日本的动画片会计小烈...这个（大）小熊猫真的太可爱了，尤其是gyrating哈哈
